Freelance Journalist for Southern New Mexico Journalism Collaborative
A new journalism collaborative is seeking a freelance reporter who's knowledgeable about southern New Mexico, and can help to shine an in-depth light on rebuilding communities post-COVID-19. The project, part of the new Southern New Mexico Journalism Collaborative, brings together print, digital, and radio sources across the region with an aim of carrying out sustained reporting with a solutions-oriented approach. Skills for this job:
General assignment or features news reporting experience in New Mexico or west Texas
Experience carrying out reporting from a solutions perspective and/or an investigative lens
Strong interest in connecting with historically marginalized communities to tell important stories
Ability to work with a diverse team of collaborators and newsrooms
Photography, radio or video experience is a bonus
Spanish language proficiency is a plus
Living in southern New Mexico or west Texas, or willingness to relocate to the area
Expected commitment: 20 hours per week to start, with the possibility of increased hours later in the year. This position will be funded through the end of June 2022, with potential for an extension.
